The box arrives pre-configured. You plug it in, follow the setup guide, and create your account. You don't need to touch a terminal or know what Docker is. That said, this is a first-generation product — if something unexpected comes up, we'll help you through it.
A small, quiet mini PC (about the size of a paperback book), a power cable, an ethernet cable, and a setup guide. If you add the access point, that comes in the box too.
It can, but it doesn't have to. The box connects between your existing router and a WiFi access point. Most people keep their current router. The optional access point is there if you'd rather not deal with settings.
It shouldn't. Ad blocking can actually speed up page loads since your browser isn't downloading ad content. The box handles typical home internet speeds without being a bottleneck.
Yes. Headscale (a self-hosted Tailscale server) creates an encrypted VPN tunnel back to your home network. You install the Tailscale app on your phone or laptop and your services are accessible as if you were home.
256GB holds roughly 30,000 photos. 512GB holds about 70,000. 1TB holds around 150,000. Estimates depend on your camera and settings — HEIC photos take less space, RAW photos take more.
18 apps running on Ubuntu Server. The main ones: Immich (photos), Nextcloud (files), Vaultwarden (passwords), AdGuard Home (ad blocking), Jellyfin (media), Headscale (VPN), Pocket-ID (SSO), and Caddy (reverse proxy). Everything is open-source.
You could absolutely build this yourself — all the software is free and open-source. The value here is that it's already done: hardware selected, software installed, services configured to work together, DNS and SSL set up. That's typically days of work if you know Linux, and inaccessible if you don't.
Here's a free guide to taking back your privacy right now. No email required. Not a funnel. Just useful.
